157th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore 

The Consulate General of India in association with the Tagore Society of New York celebrated the 157th Birth Anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore on Saturday, May 12, 2018.  

2. The evening began with opening remarks by Mr. Apurba Basak, President of Tagore Society followed by welcome remarks of Sandeep Chakravorty, Consul General of India in New York. Speaking on the occasion,the Consul General noted how Tagore's ideology was recognized worldwide. He also introduced Ms. haluliu Huang, a Chinese MFA student at Syracuse University whose painting exhibition based on Tagore poems was on display during the event.

 3. The program also featured ‘RabindraSangeet', ‘RabindraNritya’ and a play 'Kunti Karn Samvad' by members of the Community. Keynote speech was delivered by Prof. Elizabeth Redwine who presented her research project on stage presentation of Tagore's drama titled "The Post Office" at the Warsaw Ghetto in 1942 during the 2nd World War. Ms. Kalyani Kazi, daughter-in -law of famous Bengali Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, Mr. Anirban Kazi, Grandson and Ms. Anindita Kazi, granddaughter of Kazi Nazrul Islam also attended the program.

4. Event concluded with a vote of thanks from Mr. Ranadeb Sarkar, Vice-President of Tagore Society followed by traditional Bengali food.
